While remodeling our new to us house last year, one of the bathrooms didn’t need any renovations, but I wanted to add some whimsy 🙂 I found a super cute over the toilet, green wooden shelf on Amazon, added a couple of plants, had the old glass sliding door removed and added a pretty white shower curtain.
To add the whimsy… the tile on the floor was just a basic off white marble. For one, it didn’t match the rest of the bathroom, but I didn’t want to remove it either. 15-ish years ago I used to Mod Podge and scrapbook paper to recover tiles in a bathroom. I loved it! So I decided to do it again 🙂
The hardest part was picking out the paper. I wanted a floral pattern because I had been using different floral patterns throughout the house. Finding the right one in the correct size was tricky. I found the perfect ones on Amazon. They are simple with delicate florals in soft, pastel colors.
When I”m doing a project, I get so excited and ready to start that I very seldom do a good job at prepping. So my cleaning job probably was not as good as it should have been… I did remember to take a before picture right after I put the first one on. 🙂 I decided to use the same process I did years ago because I knew it worked. I used normal Mod Podge for adhering the paper to the floor. I went over the paper the first time with Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe version. (Because in my head, if it’s dishwasher safe, it’s more water-proof?) Who knows. 🙂 After that dried, I went over it with Mod Podge Hard Coat. Getting around the toilet in the back is a pain, but with a little patience and hope for a cool looking floor, I got it done!
I love it! It’s so lovely and sweet looking. Eventually I will add some painted florals to the wall beside the mirror, change out the faucet and lighting and maybe add a frame to the mirror?? But overall, I’m very happy with the update to the floor!
*I finished it late spring/early summer last year. It has been a year and a half and it’s still holding up!
